Frida Kahlo, Henry Ford Hospital(the Flying Bed),1932.

This oil painting refers to the tragic episode of Kahlo's miscarriage in Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit. She is lying naked on an iron bed in a puddle of blood, surrounded by floating images tied to her belly by red cords: a fetus, an orchid, a snail, and a sterilising-machine, all set against a background of soulless urban and industrial buildings.  In her hospital room, Frida asked Diego to obtain an illustrated anatomy manual, which the doctor had refused to provide, because he was afraid of shocking her. ''This is no ordinary person you're dealing with'', Diego told him. "Frida will make something out of it: a work of art"

Frida Kahlo, Without Hope, 1945
